This policy explains how MineRace.io, a service published by VexHex Games Inc, handles data about you. We have tried to make it as short and plain as possible. We collect very little.
What we store on your device
We use small cookies and similar local storage to remember:
- Your display name, so you do not have to retype it every time. This is the name that appears on the leaderboard when you submit a winning time.
- Your player id, a random string we generate locally so we can let you update your own leaderboard entry. The id has no connection to your real identity.
- Your retry counts and completion statusfor the current day's puzzles, so we can resume your progress if you come back later.
None of this is shared with third parties. None of it is tied to any external account. If you want to clear it, clear your browser cookies and local storage for minerace.io and the state is gone.
What we send to our backend
When you win a daily puzzle, we send the following to our database: your display name, your time, your retry count, the puzzle id, and your player id. This is the data that appears on the public leaderboard for that puzzle and size.
We also keep an anonymous count of how many users are connected at the same time so we can show an "online now" counter on the site. This count uses your randomly generated player id and does not include any other information.
What we do not collect
- No email address. We do not run an account system yet.
- No password. Same reason.
- No location data, IP-based or otherwise, beyond what your browser sends to any web server in normal operation.
- No third party tracking pixels at this time. If we add analytics later we will update this page and tell you what we run.
Server logs
Our hosting provider (Vercel) and our backend (Google Firebase) keep operational logs that may include your IP address and basic request information. These logs are used to keep the site running and secure. We do not link them to your display name or any identifier you have given us.
Cookies, in detail
The cookies we set:
ms_name: your chosen display name. Expires after one year.ms_pid: your randomly generated player id. Expires after one year.ms_retries_*: per-puzzle retry counts. Expire after seven days.ms_won_*: per-puzzle completion records (time, retries, puzzle id). Expire after seven days.ms_submitted_*: a flag noting that your winning time was already submitted to the leaderboard so we do not double-post. Expires after seven days.
These are all first-party cookies. They are not shared with anyone.
Children
MineRace is suitable for all ages, but we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information that should be removed, contact us at privacy@minerace.io and we will delete it.
Your rights
If you live in the European Union, the United Kingdom, California, or another jurisdiction with privacy laws granting you rights over your personal data, you have those rights here too. You can:
- Ask us what data we hold about you tied to a specific display name and player id.
- Ask us to delete it. The simplest way to delete it yourself is to clear your browser cookies and stop submitting times. The leaderboard entry will then fall out of the live boards naturally.
- Ask us to correct any data that is wrong.
Send any of those requests to privacy@minerace.io and we will process them.
Data retention
Daily leaderboard entries stay live for the day they apply to. All-time leaderboard entries (the perfect-run boards) stay indefinitely. We may anonymize, archive, or delete old entries at our discretion.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves. We will update the date at the top of this page when we make material changes.
